DISCOVER ITALY IN 7 DAYS

OVERVIEW

 

This is a great place to start if this is your first trip to Italy.  These are the basics – Rome, Florence and Venice.   If you have more time, Pompei or Naples can be added, or addtional time can be added in each of these cities.

 

ITINERARY

Day 1 – Arrive in Rome, Italy

Depending on what time you arrive you might want to do a little exploring – The Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain.

Ask your hotel concierge for a good authentic place to have dinner.

 

Day 2 – Rome 

Take a guided tour of the Vatican City - Vatican Museum, the Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica.  

In the afternoon take a tour of the Coliseum and the Roman Forum. 

Finish the day with Piazza Navona; it is full of Baroque architecture.

 

Day 3 – Board the Train for Florence – (about 1.5 hours)

 

Once you have stored your luggage at the hotel (you will not be able to check in yet), take a walking tour of Florence.  See some of the top attractions, Michelangelo’s “David” in the Accademia Gallery, House of Medici, Duomo, and hear the fascinating origins of the Gates of Paradise.

 

For the evening, check into your hotel and do some shopping.

 

Day 4

Take a full day wine and food tour.  Travel through the Tuscan hills, stopping at wine estates.  There will be olive and cheese tasting also.

Save room for a 3 – course meal as you travel through the country side.  

 

Day 5 – Take a train from Florence – Venice (about 2 hours)

Once you have stored your luggage at your hotel, take a walking tour of Venice.  See the famous monuments of St. Mark’s square, St Mark’s Basilica, Camp Santa Maria Formosa, the home of Marco Polo, and learn about historical Venice.

 

Take a Gondola Ride and be serenaded by a local.

 

In the evening experience an Opera with the singers and musicians of the Musica a Palazzo ensemble.  They will perform classics of Italian opera.

 

Day 6

Visit Torcello, Murano and Burano – three islands in the Venetian Lagoon.  You will see glass being blown at the Murano glass factory, historical cathedrals on Trocello, and handmade lace on Burano.

 

Take some time to do some shopping, just taking in the island.

 

Day 7

Flight back home.
