DON'T MISS YOUR VACATION!!

Can you believe that March is already here! Summer will be here before you know it; in Texas summer starts Memorial Day Weekend. Even if we don’t vacation in the summer, it seems to be the time to think about it and start wishing for one. Do you think life is too busy to go on vacation, then time to stop and smell the roses!

You are thinking you don’t have time for a vacation this year??

As Americans we are some of the hardest working people in the world, and we take or receive the fewest vacation days from our employers. Why do Americans throw away an estimated 415 million vacation days by skipping some or all of their vacation? If you are in a leadership role at your place of work, not taking time off from work can prove to be more harmful than beneficial for you or your organization. Here are three reasons why you should go on a vacation, if not this summer before the year is over.

1. Revive your productivity

We all know that small breaks throughout the day help us over the short term, but it’s vital that we take longer breaks from work to sustain and even build our creativity and productivity. Being away from your work environment for a longer period of time will help you gain a fresh perspective about your work.

2. Vacation time is part of your compensation: it’s not a job “perk”

Remember when you applied for the job? Weren’t you allotted a certain number of vacation days per year as part of the compensation package? Vacation is a return on the investment of our time and expertise in helping the organization reach their objectives. If you are a business owner, you still need to take time off. You need time to regroup and relax. You will come back refreshed and ready to boost your business to the next level.

3. Regardless of where you are - Bora Bora, Paris, or Hawaii - show others they can manage without you.

While we all like to think we are indispensable, in reality, we need to encourage the company’s growth (whether it is your company, or you are the employee) and overall morale. We think things cannot wait, however; most of the time they can.

Consider starting with just 3-4 days at a time. Remember the three R’s: RELAXING, REFRESHING and RENEWING your mind. It’s important!!
